When David Rottinghaus paints he draws from memories held onto from childhood. He grew up on his parents’ farm in rural North Iowa with his six brothers and sisters. His work reflects the agricultural spirit and pride of rural America. The challenges that face the harvesters as they sow the seed and reap the crop are examples of the subjects illustrated in Rottinghaus’ work. The farms he paints along with the stories those paintings tell magnetize many collectors. Other collectors are drawn to Rottinghaus’ popular Christmas series. Rottinghaus was chosen as one of the nations Artists to Watch by US Art magazine. He was also honored as the feature nostalgic artist in the 1996 Heritage Art Show in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
